United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 1.7square mile s (4.5km² ), of which, 1.7 square miles (4.4 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (1.72%) is water.Demographics

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,288 people, 518 households, and 361 families residing in the village. Thepopulation density was 756.3 people per square mile (292.5/km²). There were 586 housing units at an average density of 344.1/sq mi (133.1/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 89.91% White, 6.68% African American, and 3.42% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.39% of the population.There were 518 households out of which 34.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.3% were married couples living together, 22.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.3% were non-families. 24.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.88.
In the village the population was spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 92.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.1 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $31,452, and the median income for a family was $35,313. Males had a median income of $30,750 versus $21,958 for females. The
