Gettysburg is a village in Darke County, Ohio, United States. The population was 558 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Gettysburg is located at coor dms|40|6|49|N|84|29|35|W|city (40.113609, -84.493188)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.1 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 558 people, 187 households, and 149 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,267.7 people per square mile (489.6/km²). There were 201 housing units at an average density of 456.6/sq mi (176.4/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.24% White, 0.72% African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.90% Asian, and 1.79% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.72% of the population.

There were 187 households out of which 44.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.5% were married couples living together, 15.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.8% were non-families. 16.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.98 and the average family size was 3.29.

In the village the population was spread out with 34.8% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 17.4% from 45 to 64, and 9.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.6 males. and so on and so forth.

The median income for a household in the village was $36,250, and the median income for a family was $43,750. Males had a median income of $29,773 versus $21,875 for females. The per capita income for the village was $15,247. About 7.2% of families and 10.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.9% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
