- Bundibugyo District
Bundibugyo is a district in western
Uganda , bordering theDemocratic Republic of the Congo . Like other Ugandan districts, it is named after its 'chief town'. Tens of thousands of civilians were displaced by the insurgency of theAllied Democratic Forces in the late 1990s.The district is relatively isolated from the rest of Uganda, as it is the only one lying on the other side of the
Rwenzori Mountains, to its west. This implies that it is biogeographically part of theCongo Basin . As such it ecologically and culturally part ofCentral Africa , despite being politicallyEast Africa n.The geographic boundaries of the district are:
Semliki River to the West, the Rwenzori Mountains to the East andLake Albert to the North.
