Landa is a city in Bottineau County, North Dakota in the United States. The population was 28 at the 2000 census. Landa was founded in 1904.

History

Homesteading in Scotia Township likely started in the 1890s, but most settlers came in 1899 and 1900. A large part of these were of Norwegian descent.

The extension westward of the railroad in 1903 led to the establishment of Landa (called Starbone for a short period). Landa once had a bank, a hardware store, a lumber yard, a hotel, and other business establishments. The population in 1910 was 140 and in 1980 was 62.

The name Landa is taken from the family name of the family giving land to the cemetery of Landa and probably also to the railway station. The family name comes from the island Finnøy, near Stavanger, Norway.
