Leal is a city in Barnes County, North Dakota in the United States. The population was 36 at the 2000 census. Leal was founded in 1892.

Geography

Leal is located at coor dms|47|6|20|N|98|18|59|W|city (47.105452, -98.316385)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 36 people, 12 households, and 11 families residing in the city. The population density was 272.4 people per square mile (106.9/km²). There were 12 housing units at an average density of 90.8/sq mi (35.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 100.00% White.

There were 12 households out of which 58.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.7% were married couples living together, 25.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 8.3% were non-families. 8.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.00 and the average family size was 3.18.

In the city the population was spread out with 38.9% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 8.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 63.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $28,750, and the median income for a family was $31,875. Males had a median income of $27,188 versus $0 for females. The per capita income for the city was $10,662. There were 13.3% of families and 9.1% of the population living below the poverty line, including 13.0% of under eighteens and none of those over 64.
