The Bairnsdale Line is a regional passenger rail service operated by V/Line in Victoria, Australia. It serves passengers between state capital Melbourne and the regional cities of Sale and Bairnsdale.
History
The railway from Melbourne as far as Bairnsdale was completed in 1879, later being extended to Orbost in 1916. Since the 1930s passenger services have terminated at Bairnsdale. In 1993 the passenger service was cut back from Bairnsdale to Sale, until being reinstated in 2004 under the Linking Victoria program. [cite web

Services
The Bairnsdale line is served three daily return services running Monday - Friday and two daily return services on weekends under the 2007 timetable. Classified by V/Line as an Intercity service, a snack bar is provided on board trains, and first class accommodation is available. Locomotive hauled N type carriages are used, and all services run semi-express between Moe and Melbourne.
Bold stations are termini, "italic" stations are staffed at least part time (this has been confirmed).
