Marvin is an affluent village in Union County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,039 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Marvin is located at 34°59′07″N 80°49′00″W / 34.985372°N 80.816788°W / 34.985372; -80.816788.^[3]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.9 square miles (10 km²), of which, 3.9 square miles (10 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km²) of it (0.51%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census^[1] of 2000, there were 839 people, 329 households, and 302 families residing in the village. The population density was 264.8 people per square mile (102.3/km²). There were 355 housing units at an average density of 90.5 per square mile (35.0/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.50% White, 1.73% African American, 0.58% Asian, and 0.19% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.06% of the population.

There were 329 households out of which 52.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 87.5% were married couples living together, 2.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 8.2% were non-families. 6.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.16 and the average family size was 3.30.

In the village the population was spread out with 33.6% under the age of 18, 3.4% from 18 to 24, 33.8% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 5.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 102.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.1 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $97,497, and the median income for a family was $100,904. Males had a median income of $78,004 versus $57,019 for females. The per capita income for the village was $36,626. About 2.0% of families and 1.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.5% of those under age 18 and 2.1% of those age 65 or over.

The Village enacted a new land use plan in 2004, in an attempt to firmly establish its desire to preserve its open spaces, and low-density character. Marvin is located near Ballantyne, South Charlotte.
