- The Hayes
The Hayes ( _cy. Yr Aes) is a commercial street in the city centre of the Welsh capital,
Cardiff . Based around the road of that name leading south towards the east end of the city centre, it incorporates a pedestrianised square at the north end.The Hayes is the location for many buildings in Cardiff such as
department store Howells (part of theHouse of Fraser group), former department store David Morgan which is currently being developed into luxury flats and record shopSpillers Records which claims to be the oldest in the world dating back to 1894. A well-known national landmark isSt David's Hall - a largeconcert hall and exhibition centre. It is home to the Cardiff Singer of the World competition.There is also the old central library (now a pub, wine bar and an exhibition centre), a statue of John Batchelor, a 19th-century Liberal politician.

Renovation
In 2007, the shopping portfolio of the Hayes began an upgrade and renovation to include new stores, including a flagship Borders store at the former David Morgan Building,
TK Maxx and Moss Bros. AJohn Lewis department store and luxury apartments are currently in the building stages as part of St. David's 2; all aimed at developing the area for businesses as well as the city's new Central Library (located on the corner junction of The Hayes, Mill Street and Caroline Street).
