The racial makeup of the CDP is 58.48% White, 37.95% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.35% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 5.58% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.There are 149 households out of which 41.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.1% are married couples living together, 13.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.1% are non-families. 14.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. National Hollerin' Contest , first held in1969 , is an annual competition held in Spivey's Corner.The contest, held on the third Saturday in June, was inaugurated in order to revive the almost-lost art of "hollerin'," a sophisticated vocal tradition that served as a means of long-distance communication between individuals as well as an amusing form of entertainment, before the widespread adoption of the telephone.
