Paul GrayShawn Crahan Painface is an American
death metal band that originally formed in 1992 in Des Moines,Iowa . The band originally comprised vocalist Anders Colsefini, guitarist Patrick Neuwrith, bassistPaul Gray and drummerShawn Crahan , who eventually went on to form Slipknot in 1995. After Colsefini left Slipknot in 1998, he reformed Painface with different members. The band split up in 2001 and reunited again in 2008.History
Painface was formed in 1992 by Colsefini, Gray, Crahan (all later of Slipknot) and guitarist Patrick Neuwrith. The band recorded a demo known as "Basement Sessions", which featured two songs which later appeared on Slipknot's debut, "
Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat ", in 1996: "Gently" and "Slipknot". The band split up later in the year, apparently due to Crahan becoming busy with work. The new Painface released an EP, "On a Pale Horse", in 2000, as well as their first and only full-length album, "
FleshCraft ". In 2001, the band split up.After the split, Colsefini dropped his stage name in favour of his real name, Andrew Rouw, when he formed his new band. Vice Grip Throttle were active from 2004 until 2007, and released a self-titled demo in 2006. Two of the other ex-members of Painface, Jerry Spargur and Jeremy Easley, also formed a new band in 2004; On a Pale Horse, named after the 2000 demo by Painface, released three studio albums, "Black is Not the Darkest Colour" (2003), "On a Pale Horse" (2005) and "A Generation of Vipers" (2008).
After Vice Grip Throttle's split in 2007, Colsefini reunited Painface with different members, including
Soulfly drummerJoe Nunez . Jerry Spargur also returned to the band.Band members
