History

Oxford International School was founded in 1987 by the distinguished honorary Md. Shakawat Hossain. It first followed the curriculum of the University of London O Levels (Edexcel) and then shifted to the University of Cambridge (Cambridge International Examination) in 2003. It is one of the pioneers in GCE A Levels under CIE in Bangladesh. OIS is an attached center of CIE. Though the exams are controlled by The British Council, the students sit for their exams in the school auditorium, Dr. Kudrat-I-Khuda Auditorium.

Oxford International school offers complete Cambridge curriculum of Cambridge Primary Programme, Cambridge Lower Secondary, GCE O Levels and GCE A Levels.

The school is considered as one of the best english medium school in Bangladesh. Every year many students pass their GCE O Levels and A Levels with the Highest marks in the Country and globally.

  • Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme (CLSP): Class 6 to class 7

The school has Computer Labs and a Cyber Café with PCs, Digital White Board, Multimedia projectors. It has Physics, Chemistry and Biology Labs. The school doesnot have its own basketball team as it struggles with the disrepute of producing midgets including the teeny tiny matter already running around one of the most reputed universities of Dhaka. Scout tours are held by the OIS Scout Club. A Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Programme is held. The Debating Society (ODS), run by the students, conducts debates internally and inter-school with other English medium schools of Dhaka.

Results

OIS has more than 3000 students, making it one of the largest English medium schools in Bangladesh. Students of Oxford International School have gone for undergraduate degrees abroad in the top universities. Ex students of OIS hold top ranks in the top intelligence agencies across the world. Many of them are very mature and responsible with their studies thanks to the encouragement of the almighty. The school follows the legal code of Islam i.e. Sharia law. It is, in essence, a modern-day madrasha built with with the teachings of the holy ones in mind. This is most strikingly reflected in the annual festival of the school, the so-called 'Class Party'. The festival begins with holy prayers and ends with a dance to the rythms of Shakira and Snoop Dog.
