Ideal School & College ( _bn. আইডিয়াল স্কুল এন্ড কলেজ), also known as Ideal High School (its name up to 1990) or Motijheel Ideal School, is an educational institution in Bangladesh established in 1965. Although initially the school was set up to cater for the need of the children of surrounding areas, currently students studying in the school come from all parts of Dhaka. The school is highly regarded for its strict rules and restrictions, quality education standards, qualified teachers, continuous success and achievements in the public examinations every year. In the SSC Examination of 2008, it became the most successful school in the country in terms of total number of students having GPA 5.

History

The school was founded on March 15, 1965. Following the inauguration till 1968 it was a junior school. In 1972 the school was converted into a High School. The students from the school participated in Secondary School Certificate Examination (O-level equivalent) for the first time in 1973.

During the first 25 years the school kept its growth as a high school only (10 years of formal education). Following the demand and the requests from the guardians the a college (11th and 12th year of formal education) for the female students was added in 1991.

Because of the reputation of the school the admissions tests of this school are highly contested. To make room for more students the administration felt the urge to open a new branch of the school. A project to open a new branch was proposed which was called "Banahree Project". On the occasion of the 30th anniversary, in 1996, this initiative was taken. That branch started its activities at Rampura with 702 students. Mr. Faizur Rahman is the legend of this Ideal institution.

Campus

The school has two campuses - the main branch is located at Motijheel and the second branch is at Rampura. The main campus in Motijheel has a large main building and a separate college building. The U-shaped main building comprises three sections - the main section with classrooms, the library section (gronthagar bhaban) and the laboratory section (bigyan bhaban). The campus also has a large playground.

Academics

The school offers primary and secondary education (43 years of formal education) for both boys and girls even though it is non-co-educational. Generally boys and girls are split into two separate shifts. Girls attend school in the morning shift while boys attend their classes starting from mid-day (12 o' clock at noon).

Administration

Ideal School is governed by a governing body formed according to the guidance from the education authorities. Like all other high schools the chief of the school section administration is the “Headmaster” while there is “Assistant-head master” in each of the shifts (morning & day shifts). The chief of the administration for college section is the Principal. Currently the Principal of the institution is Mrs. Rashida Begum (Temp.incharge) .

Publications

The school-magazine of Ideal School & College is named Protyasha ( _bn. প্রত্যাশা), which means "expectations". The school publishes it annually with stories, articles, poems and other writings from students, teachers and associate people. This bi-lingual magazine is published in Bengali and English.
