The
Ang Mo Kio Planning Area is one of 55 planning areas ofSingapore as defined by theUrban Redevelopment Authority .Bounded by Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, Old Upper Thomson Road, Upper Thomson Road, the
Seletar Expressway , and the Central Expressway, it covers an area of approximately 13.36 km², which is developed and expanded from an original area of 6.38 km². Ten sub-zones further demarcate the area, namely the Town Centre, Cheng San, Chong Boon, Townsville, Shangri-La, Kebun Bahru, Sembawang Hills,Yio Chu Kang , Sindo, andSeletar .Town Centre
The town's thirty-two years of existence can be considered a relatively short lifespan in the context of world history, but in such an oft-changing environment as Singapore, almost anything can be perceived as "old" by many people after merely a few years.
The recent construction of the
Ang Mo Kio Hub and other local projects has brought a number of new people to the area. It has an air-conditioned multi-level shopping mall and car park with an interlink to theAng Mo Kio MRT Station and the re-builtAng Mo Kio Bus Interchange . The AMK Hub also hosts theNTUC FairPrice Xtra hypermarket, which is the largest branch of its chain of supermarkets.Transportation
Ang Mo Kio is serviced by the
Ang Mo Kio MRT Station and theYio Chu Kang MRT Station . The former is attached to theAng Mo Kio Bus Interchange and both will eventually be connected to theThomson MRT Line due to be completed by 2020.Entertainment

temple s,mosque s and churches scattered all over the estate. Many of each are within walking distance to most residents of the area.Education
For many residents living in Ang Mo Kio housing estate, one of the reasons for relocating here is the existence of many schools. It has plenty of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, as well as junior colleges plus a new information technology college.
Among the many well established educational and public interest outlets is the old
Ang Mo Kio Community Library which has been renovated.There are five different
community centres in Ang Mo Kio offering a variety of classes fromwushu andtaiji tomodern dance and conversational English.External links
