In 1949 Forwood gained his first acting role when he starred in
Ralph Thomas ' "Traveller's Joy ". That same year he appeared in thriller " Man in Black " oppositeSid James . Some time later, in 1952, he received a number of roles including "Appointment in London " withDirk Bogarde , whom he was longtime partner and manager to. Incidentally, the aforementioned Ralph Thomas directed Bogarde in "Doctor in the House " and several of its sequels. He appeared withBoris Karloff inmystery "Colonel March Investigates " and playedWill Scarlet in "The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men ", which he is perhaps best known for. One year later he acted in the Oscar-nominated "Knights of the Round Table " opposite such high-profile actors as Robert Taylor,Ava Gardner andStanley Baker , and inTerence Fisher ’s " Mantrap". His last role came in 1956 in "Colonel March of Scotland Yard ".Personal life
Forwood married, and later divorced, actress
Glynis Johns . Their only child was actor Gareth Forwood (1945-2007).Forwood was the
partner andmanager ofDirk Bogarde . By 1987 Forwood was dying of liver cancer and
Parkinson's disease . At this time Bogarde, a heavy smoker, experienced a minorstroke . On May 18th 1988 Anthony Forwood passed away inLondon . After being witness to Forwood’s suffering, Bogarde was determined to encouragevoluntary euthanasia for terminally ill patients.References
