Beath High School is a non-denominational state secondary school located in Cowdenbeath, Fife. The school is run by Fife Council and the current roll stands at around 1200 pupils aged from 11 to 18. It serves the towns of Cowdenbeath and Kelty as well as the villages of Crossgates, Hill of Beath and Lumphinnans. Some pupils from Lochgelly and even Ballingry attend the school, as a result of placing requests, because of better reputation than their catchment school - Lochgelly High School. The current rector is Douglas Young.

History

Beath High School was established in 1910 as "Beath Higher Grade School", catering for the children of local mine executives, whom wished to proceed to higher education. The building was located on Stenhouse Street, close to the town centre. In 1964 a 'modern' school was built at the Foulford Road site. The school was then split in two, with the new building housing pupils of a high ability and the older building housing pupils who were 'not as clever'. In the 1980's the school became comprehensive, and in the 90's the Stenhouse Street building was demolished. The 'modern' Foulford Road building was in a poor state by the millennium, suffering from severe subsidence, and many outdoor huts were used as classrooms, and so a new building was built just east of the previous site in 2003.
