Bampton (Devon) railway station

Bampton (Devon) railway station

Bampton railway station was on the Exe Valley Railway line, and served the small town of Bampton in Devon, South West England. The station opened in 1884. At that time, the railway was known as the Tiverton and North Devon Railway, but with the opening of the Exe Valley line south of Tiverton in 1885, through services started between Exeter and Dulverton. The station was renamed as "Bampton (Devon)" in 1911 to avoid confusion with a second Great Western Railway station at Bampton, Oxfordshire.

Bampton was one of the larger stations on the mostly rural line and had two platforms. There was also a large goods yard. It closed when services were withdrawn on the Exe Valley line in 1963 and was later demolished.
