- Exe Valley Railway
The Exe Valley Railway was a small branch of the
Great Western Railway that ran fromExeter St Davids railway station toDulverton . The northern part of the line was originally called the Tiverton and North Devon Railway and it opened in 1884; the following year the line south of Tiverton opened and through services began between Dulverton and Exeter. When the line opened,
Stoke Canon railway station was to the north of the junction with theBristol and Exeter Railway main line at the south end of the Exe Valley line. In 1894, Stoke Canon was relocated south of the junction and thereafter Exe Valley trains stopped there as well as stopping services on the main line. The whole line closed to passenger traffic in 1963 and goods services ceased in 1964.
