1957 , owned by the Roth family with KONO-AM-FM. It has been an ABC affiliate since its launch. The station was purchased by
The Outlet Company of Providence, R.I., in1968 , who changed its call letters to the present day KSAT-TV shortly thereafter. After a buyout of Outlet in1986 , it was sold toH&C Communications . In1994 , it was sold withKPRC-TV in Houston to current owner Post-Newsweek Stations, a subsidiary of theWashington Post Company .Digital Television

Local news
As of the November 2006 ratings period, KSAT is in a spirited battle with
KENS-TV for first place at 10:00 p.m. KSAT is first place at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. In the May 2007 ratings period, KSAT won the coveted 10 P.M. newscast ratings over KENS-TV. Non-contenderWOAI-TV , as usual, is the perennial "cellar dweller" at third to fifth place in all time slots.tation Branding
Post-Newsweek adopted a "Local Mandate" meaning that all its stations carry the "Local" branding. KSAT 12 was briefly called "Local 12" in 2004 before reverting back to the current brand used before. This means that KSAT does not follow this station standardization, but Local is mentioned in the station's slogan: "Live, Local, Latebreaking", & peridocally during newscasts the station bug does cycle between both names (mimicking a similar behavior at sister stations
KPRC-TV &WDIV , cycling between the station call letters / channel & Local 4 on the animated bug).Leslie Mouton
Current (as of 2007) news anchor
Leslie Mouton was interviewed onOprah Winfrey 's talk show program (which airs on channel 12), talking about her battle withbreast cancer & her decision to anchor the news without a wig, when she was going throughchemotherapy . The talk show featured clips of Mouton's first anchoring appearance after she lost her hair, including the explanation she gave on-air of what she was going through @ the time. Mouton chronicled her treatment & recovery on KSAT, earning accolades from localoncologists and cancer patients.Personalities
