On
September 7 ,2006 , Police Chief Dereck Sayers was terminated, following a suspension in August. Following his termination, 9 of the 11 officers in Buckner's police department quit or were fired, leading to a shortage of public safety personnel and an increase inpolice response time s. The exact reason for Sayers' termination is not known, although he alleges that it is due to a conflict with Mayor Debbie Gilmore. In September 2006, Gilmore was being investigated by the FBI for unspecified reasons.
