unincorporated community in the northeast part of the township at coord|44|08|24|N|85|54|57|W| [gnis|1620328|Irons, Michigan] near the boundary with Elk Township. In 1894 it was a station on theChicago and West Michigan Railway (later thePere Marquette Railway ). It wasplat ted in about 1909 by A. Glen Haslett and G.E. Hilderbrand. It was named for the Irons family, who were early settlers. United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 36.5square mile s (94.6km² ), of which, 36.4 square miles (94.2 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.4 km²) of it (0.41%) is water.Demographics

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 377 people, 178 households, and 114 families residing in the township. Thepopulation density was 10.4 per square mile (4.0/km²). There were 692 housing units at an average density of 19.0/sq mi (7.3/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 96.82% White, 0.53% African American, 0.80% Native American, and 1.86% from two or more races.There were 178 households out of which 18.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.2% were married couples living together, 5.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.4% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.12 and the average family size was 2.53.
In the township the population was spread out with 16.4% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 21.0% from 25 to 44, 36.6% from 45 to 64, and 19.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 49 years. For every 100 females there were 104.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 112.8 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $23,646, and the median income for a family was $27,188. Males had a median income of $35,469 versus $15,625 for females. The
