Turkish people in Austria are either Turkish people who live in Austria even though having been born outside Austria, or are Austrian-born, but have Turkish roots (Turkish-Austrian). By Turkish roots, this could mean roots linking back to Turkey, the island of Cyprus or the communities of the Turkish diaspora. There are currently 183,445 Turks living in Austria, according to the 2001 census, 2.3% of the populations mother tongue by prevalence is Turkish. Turkish people in Austria also form the majority of the muslim population.
