Almost every building in the town of 350 people was damaged. "The whole town is virtually gone," the mayor said regarding the aftermath. On the same day, a tornado also struck the nearby city of

As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 217 people, 84 households, and 58 families residing in the village. Thepopulation density was 1,643.0 people per square mile (644.5/km²). There were 92 housing units at an average density of 696.6/sq mi (273.2/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.54% White and 0.46% African American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.92% of the population.There were 84 households out of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% were married couples living together, 15.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.8% were non-families. 27.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.15.
In the village the population was spread out with 23.5% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 24.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 88.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.4 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $25,417, and the median income for a family was $27,292. Males had a median income of $23,750 versus $14,531 for females. The
per capita income for the village was $10,351. About 14.5% of families and 18.0% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 18.2% of those under the age of eighteen and 32.3% of those sixty five or over.The town was named Vanduser because one of the local farmers by that name donated the land for the town buildings and the Baptist Church.
