Altenburg is a city in Perry County, Missouri, United States. The population was 309 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Altenburg is located at coor dms|37|37|53|N|89|34|53|W|city (37.631301, -89.581513)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 square miles (2.5 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 309 people, 126 households, and 86 families residing in the city. The population density was 323.4 people per square mile (124.3/km²). There were 140 housing units at an average density of 146.5/sq mi (56.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.35% White, and 0.65% from two or more races.

There were 126 households out of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.9% were married couples living together, 5.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% were non-families. 27.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.05.

In the city the population was spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 30.7% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 18.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 108.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 107.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $40,417, and the median income for a family was $46,136. Males had a median income of $33,125 versus $20,208 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,174. None of the families and 5.0% of the population were living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and 13.0% of those over 64.
