Cardiff Centenary Walk

Cardiff Centenary Walk

The Cardiff Centenary Walk is a tourist walkway through Cardiff city centre in Wales. It has 41 points of interest, either Cardiff landmarks or significant historic sites, these are marked by waymarkers on the pavement, which also direct pedestrians to the next waymarker. The whole walk is convert|3.6|km|mi|1 long running around Cardiff in a clockwise direction, starting and finishing at the Cardiff Visitor Centre at the Old Library [ [http://www.cardiff.gov.uk/content.asp?Parent_Directory_id=2865&nav=2868,2965,3669 Cardiff Centenary Walk] ] .

The walk was established as part of Cardiff's centennial celebrations to mark 100 years of city status in 2005. While appearing a good idea at the time, the waymarkers sunk into the pavement are not clearly visible on busy days, and some have become loose or cracked as the concrete around them has settled. This problem has been compounded by redevelopment taking place across much of the city as part of the St. David's 2 project and the Countdown 2009 initiative.

The waymarker 33 (Town Wall), is currently not accessible due to the development of St. David's Centre, called St. David's 2. From waymarker 32 (St David's Cathedral), you will need to use the path that skirts Debenhams, and runs between the old St David's Centre building and the new extension. This brings you out onto The Hayes near the John Batchelor statue and St David's Hall. (As the development moves towards completion, this route may change slightly). All other areas of the walk are still accessible by pedestrians.
