Personal details Born Dubai, United Arab Emirates Occupation Politician & Businessman Mohammed Al Gergawi (Arabic: محمد القرقاوي) is the Chairman of Dubai Holding, a Minister of Cabinet Affairs of the Federal Government of the United Arab Emirates, and was the former Chairman of The Executive Office of the Government of Dubai. He leads the development of the UAE Federal Government Strategy and oversees its overall delivery and performance.
AlGergawi has responsibility for Dubai Holding’s[1] overall business strategy and heads a workforce of more than 34,000. AlGergawi was appointed on May 26, 2007 as the chairman of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation which has an endowment of US $ 10 billion. The foundation contributes to developing a knowledge-based society in the Arab and Muslim world by focusing on education, research and culture. It also nurtures future leaders and empowers youth to find innovative solutions to regional challenges. He is the Founding Chairman of the Young Arab Leaders, a pan-Arab NGO and network that aims to improve the state of the region by focusing on its youth.

Biography
Early life
Gergawi was born to a middle class family and has nine siblings; he was orphaned at a young age. Upon graduating from high school he won an educational scholarship and went to Michigan in the United States for university. He later joined the Dubai Municipality and worked there before joining the Dubai Economic Development Department. His innovations caught the eye of Dubai's young Crown Prince at the time, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who was particularly impressed by the Dubai Shopping Festival, a personal project of Gergawi that brought global recognition, wealth, tourism and international recognition to Dubai.[citation needed]
Career
AlGergawi formally held the post of Secretary General of the Executive Council of the Government of Dubai, which led the strategic planning and implementation of Dubai’s economic and social development.
Awards & recognition
Al Gergawi has received numerous honours and recognition in the UAE and the wider region, including the Moroccan Royal Order of Merit (from His Majesty King Mohammad VI of Morocco),[2] and the American Business Award from the American Business Council in Dubai.[3]
