Altamont is a village in Daviess County, Missouri, United States. The population was 218 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Altamont is located at coor dms|39|53|17|N|94|5|19|W|city (39.888009, -94.088624)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

At the 2000 censusGR|2, there were 218 people, 83 households, and 60 families residing in the village. The population density was 847.6 per square mile (323.7/km²). There were 93 housing units at an average density of 361.6/sq mi (138.1/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.54% White and 0.46% Native American.

There were 83 households of which 37.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.2% were married couples living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.7% were non-families. 27.7% of all households were individuals and 13.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.20.

The age distribution was 30.3% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 84.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.4 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $26,250, and the median income for a family was $32,500. Males had a median income of $24,375 versus $15,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $9,953. About 15.4% of families and 21.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 28.6% of those under the age of eighteen and 18.2% of those sixty five or over.
