As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,726 people, 744 households, and 474 families residing in the city. Thepopulation density was 493.6 people per square mile (1,276.0/km²). There were 847 housing units at an average density of 242.2/sq mi (626.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.84% White, 4.23% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.06% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.58% of the population.There were 744 households out of which 29.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% were married couples living together, 9.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 34.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.93.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 22.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 84.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.8 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $30,729, and the median income for a family was $41,389. Males had a median income of $28,988 versus $19,185 for females. The
per capita income for the city was $15,163. About 7.1% of families and 10.0% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 10.4% of those under age 18 and 9.9% of those age 65 or over.Attractions
Salisbury's Main Street is a local hot spot on the weekends for the younger generation. The local watering hole is McTags for the 21+ group of Salisbury. There is also a 9 hole golf course located just south of the town in Potts Park. It is a nice golf course for the region, and is very popular. There are two conservation lakes just outside the city limits that are both good places to go fishing. Also in Potts Park there is a New 10 unit Campground with Electricity, Water and Sewer Services available.
Shannon's Diner located on Highway 24 in Heart of Salisbury is a good place to get a meal. On Saturday Night a Pizza Hut trailer is in town located at Our Place on Hwy. 24.

In the Summer of 2008 Salisbury's Historic Downtown underwent major sidewalk and road work and installed early 1900s style streetlights, and have built a nice park , "Millstone Park", in the center of town, and are still upgrading it, and scheduling events to utilize it. The Broadway (Broadway and 2nd St.is the center of town) Street upgrades will include paving the entire street upon completion. SUBWAY is a good place to eat in town also. Fiber Optics Lines are still being laid in town. The main drag is very busy with traffic on weekends and holidays, making it a major place for people to congregate. External links
