- 3-dehydroquinate synthase
In
enzymology , a 3-dehydroquinate synthase (EC number|4.2.3.4) is anenzyme that catalyzes thechemical reaction :3-deoxy-arabino-heptulonate 7-phosphate 3-dehydroquinate + phosphate
Hence, this enzyme has one substrate,
3-deoxy-arabino-heptulonate 7-phosphate , and two products,3-dehydroquinate andphosphate .This enzyme belongs to the family of
lyase s, specifically those carbon-oxygen lyases acting on phosphates. The systematic name of this enzyme class is 3-deoxy-arabino-heptulonate-7-phosphate phosphate-lyase (cyclizing 3-dehydroquinate-forming). Other names in common use include 5-dehydroquinate synthase, 5-dehydroquinic acid synthetase, dehydroquinate synthase, 3-dehydroquinate synthetase, 3-deoxy-arabino-heptulosonate-7-phosphate phosphate-lyase, (cyclizing), and 3-deoxy-arabino-heptulonate-7-phosphate phosphate-lyase (cyclizing). This enzyme participates inphenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan biosynthesis . It employs one cofactor, cobalt .tructural studies
As of late 2007, 15 structures have been solved for this class of enzymes, with PDB accession codes PDB link|1NR5, PDB link|1NRX, PDB link|1NUA, PDB link|1NVA, PDB link|1NVB, PDB link|1NVD, PDB link|1NVE, PDB link|1NVF, PDB link|1SG6, PDB link|1UJN, PDB link|1XAG, PDB link|1XAH, PDB link|1XAI, PDB link|1XAJ, and PDB link|1XAL.
