Long Beach is a city in Pope County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 271 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.2 km²), of which, 1.5 square miles (3.9 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²) of it (7.41%) is water.

Long Beach is immediately west of Glenwood, Minnesota on Minnesota State Highway 28 and is on the north shore of Lake Minnewaska.

Minnesota State Highways 28 and 29 (co-signed) serve as a main route in Long Beach.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 271 people, 113 households, and 85 families residing in the city. The population density was 180.3 people per square mile (69.8/km²). There were 159 housing units at an average density of 105.8/sq mi (40.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 100.00% White. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.74% of the population.

There were 113 households out of which 30.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.5% were married couples living together, 10.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.9% were non-families. 20.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.76.

In the city the population was spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 22.5% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 26.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 93.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $55,000, and the median income for a family was $56,250. Males had a median income of $34,375 versus $22,813 for females. The per capita income for the city was $30,207. About 4.7% of families and 4.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.9% of those under the age of eighteen and none of those sixty five or over.
