Proline racemase

Proline racemase

In enzymology, a proline racemase (EC number|5.1.1.4) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

:L-proline ightleftharpoons D-proline

Hence, this enzyme has one substrate, L-proline, and one product, D-proline.

This enzyme belongs to the family of isomerases, specifically those racemases and epimerases acting on amino acids and derivatives. The systematic name of this enzyme class is proline racemase. This enzyme participates in arginine and proline metabolism.

tructural studies
