Isochorismate synthase

Isochorismate synthase

In enzymology, an isochorismate synthase (EC number|5.4.4.2) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

:chorismate ightleftharpoons isochorismate

Hence, this enzyme has one substrate, chorismate, and one product, isochorismate.

This enzyme belongs to the family of isomerases, specifically those intramolecular transferases transferring hydroxy groups. The systematic name of this enzyme class is isochorismate hydroxymutase. This enzyme participates in 2 metabolic pathways: ubiquinone biosynthesis and biosynthesis of siderophore group.

tructural studies

As of late 2007, only one structure has been solved for this class of enzymes, with the PDB accession code PDB link|2EUA.
