BBallHOF =Lynn Amedee is a former
American football coach. He served as assistant at nine different colleges including a number of high major schools, but never got a head coaching position at the collegiate ranks except for mid major Tennessee-Martin at the beginning of his career.Amedee played
quarterback andplacekicker under coachesPaul Dietzel andCharles McClendon at Louisiana State from 1960-1962. He was not drafted in the1963 NFL Draft but started a pro career with theEdmonton Eskimos until he was waived before the1964 CFL season . Later Amedee started a coaching career, returning to his alma mater as quarterbacks coach under head coach McClendon from 1975-1979.In 1980 he became headcoach at the
University of Tennessee at Martin . He guided the school to a 8-14-0 record in two years before resigning in order to join the coaching staff at Southwestern Louisiana (now Louisiana-Lafayette). He left USL after one season, heading to Vanderbilt to becomeoffensive coordinator under head coachGeorge MacIntyre . Amedee left Vanderbilt after the 1984 season, as he was hired as offensive coordinator by new Texas A&M head coachJackie Sherrill . In 1988 he became offensive coordinator under head coachGalen Hall at theUniversity of Florida , [ [http://www.gatorzone.com/football/media/2006/pdf/164.pdf Florida Gators All-Time Assistant Coaches] ] where he drew criticism for his strategy to use sophomorerunning back Emmitt Smith as a “decoy”. 1988 was Smith's only season with less than 1,000 yards rushing. In 1989 Amedee was hired as offensive coordinator by Texas head coach David McWilliams. After McWilliams resignation in 1991, Amedee sat out for a year, before joining
Curley Hallman 's coaching staff at his alma mater LSU. Hallman was fired in after the 1994 season, thus Amedee went on to become offensive coordinator under Jackie Sherrill at Mississippi State. In 1999, Amedee left the collegiate ranks, taking over head coaching duties atOpelousas High School inOpelousas, Louisiana .Head coaching record
