- Sarcosine dehydrogenase
In
enzymology , a sarcosine dehydrogenase (EC number|1.5.99.1) is anenzyme that catalyzes thechemical reaction :sarcosine + acceptor + H2O glycine + formaldehyde + reduced acceptor
The 3 substrates of this enzyme are
sarcosine ,acceptor , and H2O, whereas its 3 products areglycine ,formaldehyde , andreduced acceptor .This enzyme belongs to the family of
oxidoreductase s, specifically those acting on the CH-NH group of donor with other acceptors. The systematic name of this enzyme class is sarcosine:acceptor oxidoreductase (demethylating). Other names in common use include sarcosine N-demethylase, monomethylglycine dehydrogenase, and sarcosine:(acceptor) oxidoreductase (demethylating). This enzyme participates inglycine ,serine andthreonine metabolism. It employs one cofactor,FMN .References
