According to the
United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 0.8square mile s (2.0km² ), of which, 0.7 square miles (1.9 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (2.63%) is water.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 595 people, 218 households, and 170 families residing in the village. Thepopulation density was 806.2 per square mile (310.4/km²). There were 231 housing units at an average density of 313.0/sq mi (120.5/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.64% White, 1.34% Native American, and 2.02% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.18% of the population.There were 218 households out of which 39.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.3% were married couples living together, 11.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.0% were non-families. 18.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.07.
In the village the population was spread out with 29.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.1 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $39,167, and the median income for a family was $41,563. Males had a median income of $34,286 versus $25,962 for females. The
per capita income for the village was $17,137. About 5.8% of families and 6.7% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 9.8% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.History
Founded in 1824, Byron received its first postmaster in 1837. Afte a spur of the Ann Arbor Railroad came through, the area incorporated into a village in 1873.
