History

He started his television career at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Townsville, Queensland and moved to Channel Nine in Brisbane as a current affairs reporter. After a stint in the Parliamentary press gallery in Canberra Broadfield moved to Melbourne as a current affairs reporter for the 7 Network where he stayed until he was posted to London in 1988 as the Network's Bureau Chief. From London Broadfield reported across a wide geographical area that included Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa and America.

During his time as the Seven-Network's London Bureau Chief in the late 1980s he reported on the increasing tensions in the Middle East, including the Palestinian uprisings and the growing hostilities between America and many of the Arab states in the region.

During the final stages of the Iran–Iraq War his reports from Iran on the shooting down of a civilian airliner by the US warship Vincennes were seen around the world.

In 1989 he was asked to be part of the start-up team for Sky News in London, using his foreign news expertise to help build the broadcaster's multi award winning foreign desk operation at their studios in West London. Before leaving, he was one of the team that founded Sky News Active – the station's award winning and world leading interactive news service.

In 1992 Broadfield was hired as Chief correspondent for the European Business channel based in Zurich. EBC went into receivership just 8 months after the 24-hour service was launched. Mr Broadfield returned to London to take up a position as deputy editor of Channel One, a London cable news station launched by Sir David English the chairman of Associated Newspapers.

Broadfield returned to Sky News in 1997 as part of the start-up team for Sky News Active.

In 2002 he retired from journalism and moved to the South of France where he founded and now runs the property finding company, Totally Riviera.
