Rhode Island .Route
Route 37 takes the following route through the State:
*Cranston: 1.9 miles; Natick Avenue to Warwick city line
**Lincoln Expressway
*Warwick: 1.0 miles; Cranston city line to U.S. 1
**Lincoln ExpresswayHistory
Route 37 was part of the first plan for a proposed Interstate 895 that would have served as an eastern beltway around Providence.
Route 37 was also studied as a possible route for a proposed Interstate 84 that would have connected Providence with
Hartford, Connecticut .Notes
Route 37's main purpose today is to provide access to T.F. Green Airport for through traffic from
Massachusetts . Signs in Massachusetts direct traffic to the Airport to use Interstate 295 instead of Interstate 95 in order to avoid unnecessary traffic through downtown Providence. It may be possible that Route 37 may be extended to Route 117, due to the
FAA recommending that runway 5/23 be extended north. If the runway is extended, it will cut across Airport Road, which is used to access the eastern suburbs of Warwick.
