Location
Seaside FM transmits from the South Holderness Resource Centre (also known as the SHoRes Centre) on Seaside Road in the seaside resort of Withernsea. This follows a move from rented premises at 27 Seaside Road, in between AJ's Cafe and the South Holderness Resource Centre.[1]
History & Background
"Seaside Radio Ltd" was originally set up by former Holderness Gazette editor Lyz Turner in 2003, along with other volunteers such as Carl Slaughter and Luke Cullen. It was part of a community based communication and entertainment radio project.
However, Seaside FM actually dates back to Easter 2001 when a temporary broadcast was set up in Keyingham known then as Seaside Radio, the signal was also picked up in both Withernsea and the borders of Kingston upon Hull. After the broadcast, it was thought that Seaside Radio could be developed further.
A further number of small broadcasts took place in various places around then East Coast including Bridlington and Filey.[2]
As well as radio broadcasting, they also provided editing and training services for the community, which was seen as an important part of the regeneration of the area.
Seaside FM also had a mobile training facility in the form of a converted camper van that is fully equipped with a dual CD player, 2 record decks, MiniDisk player and mixing desk. There is also Video cameras, still cameras and recording equipment on the van.
In November 2005, Ofcom awarded the station a full time licence on the frequency of 105.3 MHz.[3]
On 7 December 2006, Seaside FM passed an Ofcom inspection and was given the green light to start broadcasting.
After four years building Seaside FM from scratch and gaining charity status for the Social Enterprise, Turner stood down as Station Manager in September 2007, after obtaing all licences.
Irishman, Justin Macartney then took over on 3 September 2007 and arranged the erection of the aerial mast for transmission. Following a second Ofcom inspection visit, Seaside FM 105.3 launched on 5 October 2007 and is now on air.[4]

Programming
Shows
Despite much of the output being automated, Seaside FM 105.3 still has a live breakfast show from 9:00 a.m. every weekday called "The Full Fat Breakfast presented by Paul Ashworth.
Content
Seaside FM broadcasts a variety of music and interviews from the local communities. However, since a number of presenters left the station most of the output is now automated.
Guests from the local community are a part of the output. People from local organisations in places such as Withernsea, Elstronwick, Patrington, Burstwick and Hedon regularly feature on the airwaves.[5]
In addition, they are regularly granted interviews with authors, comedians, artists and musicians/bands. For example, on 28 October 2007, guests on "The Mike Brown Radio Show" were local band "Infinite" and the well known character Frank Sidebottom. Frank then interviewed popular TV comedian Trevor Lock on the phone.[6] Mike Brown has also interviewed the well known singer Sandi Thom for his show.[7]
Complaint
On 5 January 2008, OFCOM received two complaints of Offensive Language on Seaside FM during "Joey B's Nightwaves" programme[8] - these complaints were not upheld.
Imaging
For its FM launch, Seaside FM had an American female 'station voice' for Station identification purposes. However, these have no been disposed of in favour of English voice overs by Bob Preedy and Chris Bell.
Whilst Seaside FM was known as Seaside Radio, some sung idents were produced by Steve England. One of which was a resing of the classic PAMS "smooth sailing" jingle. However, due to the name change these are now no longer used.
Advertisements
Adverts for AJ's Cafe, Kevin Young Interiors, Discount Bikes, Holderness Cars, Keith the Sky Man and Waxholme Trade Park are among some that have been heard in the first 10 months of broadcast.
Under OFCOM community radio rules, only 50% of Seaside FM 105.3's income can come from advertisements.
Website
Streaming
Until recently Seaside FM's broadcasts could be heard via the internet, but this has now stopped.
Blogs
The presenters regularly write blogs about their programmes on the site and also post pictures of their guests and competition winners.[5][9]
