Westport Middle School is most likely named after Westport, a historic neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri, USA that was originally its own town. It was annexed by Kansas City in 1897. Today, it is one of Kansas City's main entertainment districts. The middle school is across the street from Westport High School. They were both a charter school since 1999.

Closing

There is a possible closing of Westport Middle based on the new transition of the K-8 neighborhood schools. The 2008-2009 school year will have only 8th graders.
