The first holder wasJoão Nepomuceno de Macedo , born inChamusca (15th May 1793), brigadier general of the liberal constitutionalist army during theLiberal Wars , Knight Commander of theOrder of Aviz and of theOrder of the Tower and Sword .The title passed to his granddaughter, daughter of his second son, João Nepmuceno de Macedo and his wife D. Maria do Carmo de Souza Girão (from Santarém, D.Josefa Henriqueta Girão de Macedo. She married on the 28th August 1889 D. António de Portugal, natural son, legitimated, of the 13th
Conde de Vimioso . The 3rd Baron was D. Francisco de Paula Girão de Macedo de Portugal e Castro, by order of King Manuel II, in exile. The 4th Baron is D. António Pizarro de Mello Sampayo de Macedo de Portugal e Castro, son of the 3rd Baron. The heir apparent is his son D. Francisco de Paula de Macedo de Portugal e Castro, born 8h May 1958.References
