Golden Beach is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Mary's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 2,665 at the 2000 census. It consists of a small housing development with a private beach, located within the larger postal designation of Mechanicsville. One resident is popular 1960s romantic recording artist Ronnie Dove.

Geography

Golden Beach is located at coor dms|38|29|26|N|76|41|23|W|city (38.490429, -76.689680)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.4 square miles (8.9 km²), of which, 2.6 square miles (6.7 km²) of it is land and 0.8 square miles (2.1 km²) of it (23.98%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 2,665 people, 921 households, and 749 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,027.3 people per square mile (397.3/km²). There were 970 housing units at an average density of 373.9/sq mi (144.6/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 94.71% White, 2.40% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.75% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 1.43% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.68% of the population.

There were 921 households out of which 38.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.1% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.6% were non-families. 14.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.89 and the average family size was 3.17.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 27.8% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 27.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 103.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.8 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $64,697, and the median income for a family was $65,655. Males had a median income of $45,000 versus $31,250 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $21,625. About 3.6% of families and 3.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.2% of those under age 18 and 3.1% of those age 65 or over.
