He has served as the head of theAlgorithms group at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory since 1996, and co-foundedAkamai Technologies with studentDaniel Lewin in 1998. Leighton received his B.S.E. inElectrical Engineering fromPrinceton University in 1978, and his Ph.D. in Mathematics from MIT in 1981. He is a Fellow of theAmerican Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of theNational Academy of Engineering . His brother David T.
