Lowell is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population was 291 at the 2000 census.

Notable People

Lowell was the home of Jonathan "Jock" Darling, a famous Maine guide in the late 19th century. In an obituary of 1898, the "New York Times" called him "the pioneer and king of all Maine guides". Darling was originally a notorious poacher, who later became one of the most effective game wardens. He owned a hunting camp on Lake Nicatous that attracted many well-heeled New Yorkers.
