The company was created in March 2006 through the merger of Simrad Yachting and Lowrance Electronics by their common owners, Altor Equity Partners, a Norwegian private equity firm. Navico acts as the parent to five distinct and well-known leisure marine brands: B&G, Eagle, Lowrance, Northstar and Simrad Yachting.
Navico has its headquarters outside the Norwegian capital Oslo, and the group has manufacturing facilities in the USA, UK, Norway, Mexico and New Zealand. The company employs approximately 2500 people and is headed by president and CEO Leif Ottosson.

2007 – Navico acquires the marine electronics division of Brunswick New Technologies Inc – bringing the Northstar, Navman (marine) and MX Marine brands into the group.
2008 – The Navman marine range is integrated into the Northstar product family in line with the terms of the original acquisition agreement.
