Biography
Mike Perras Considered by others to be one of the pioneers of House Music in Montreal, Mike had his name added to the list of artists in the "House Hall of Fame” on classichousetracks.com’s website.
Mike is proud to be cofounder of “Mikrobe recordings” and “Bouche à Bouche”, two Labels that have many tracks sold on the web. He is the owner of djmr.com, one of the only digital and vinyl record stores on the web for independent dance music in Canada. He is also the owner of Club U-N in Montreal. He created, designed and built the entire club along with the unique sound system. Therefore, he is one of the resident dj’s at Club U-N.
It all started when he spent much of his leisure hours both at high school and college as a dj on the campus radios. His professional career started in 1983 at the “Futuriste” Club in the Montreal area.
From 1984 to 1991 period, Mike found himself elevated to the position of resident dj at many Night Clubs in the Greater Montreal region: “The Octagone”, “Superpub”, “Braque”, and “Esprit”, to name but a few.
On becoming a member of Montreal’s “S.U.R.E Record Pool” in 1983 Mike met Robby Demlakian, founder of Bassic Records and rapidly became the soundman for this label, using his own studio for most of their productions. In the early 90’s Mike and Robby made some remixes for Unidisc, the most well known being D-Train’s “You’re the one for me” on the Prelude label.
In 1987, Mike Perras was a member of one of the very first House music bands to be located in Montreal: “Made 2 Funk” giving live performances starring the singer Rodney Felix. Later Rodney was featured on Mike’s first production “You can’t ride the rhythm” released on the Bassic label in 1989. Subsequently several productions/demos were made at his studio by such producers as Robert Ouimet, Gino Crescenza, Phil Dimarco and many others.
1991 saw a turning point in Mike’s life when his tracks “Beginning of Life” and “Keep Movin”, released on Bassic Records, were licensed over the ensuing years by top recording labels as “Azuli”, “BBE”, “Defected”, “International Deejay Gigolo”, “Logic”, “Outland” and “Global Underground”.
Finally, Mike is deeply appreciative to those djs who have continued unfailingly to support and promote his music throughout the years: Nick Warren (UK), DJ Hell (Germany), DJ Deep (France), DJ Jeno (California, US), Fish Go Deep (Ireland), Levon Vincent (US), Paul Mac (Australia) and Laurent Garnier (France).
