United Pentecostal and Evangelical churches

The United Pentecostal and Evangelical churches (Verenigde Pinkster- en Evangeliegemeenten or VPE in Dutch) are the largest grouping of pentecostal and evangelical churches in the Netherlands. The VPE came into existence as a merger of the Brotherhood of Pentecostal Churches and the All the Gospel Churches of the Netherlands on February 16 2002. Internationally the VPE are best compared to the Assemblies of God, the merger in 2002 made it the largest church of this Christian denomination in the Netherlands.Internationally the VPE is a member of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship. In the Netherlands the VPE cooperate with other pentecostal and evangelical groups in the National Platform of the Pentecostal and Evangelical Movement.At the moment (ie 2007) some 150 local churches are aligned with the VPE and the grand total of members numbers around 22.000.Preachers and church workers are trained at the Azusa Theological College that, since 2002, resides at the Free University in Amsterdam.The VPE are led by a chair, since it came into existence this has been Peter Sleebos.
