Annville is a city in Jackson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 589 at the 2000 census.

The village is the birthplace of country musicians, David "Stringbean" Akeman and Freddie Langdon.

Geography

Annville is located at coor dms|37|19|9|N|83|57|45|W|city (37.319178, -83.962477)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.6 square miles (6.8 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 589 people, 202 households, and 145 families residing in the city. The population density was 222.8 people per square mile (86.1/km²). There were 226 housing units at an average density of 85.5/sq mi (33.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.15% White, and 0.85% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.17% of the population.

There were 202 households out of which 33.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.4% were married couples living together, 6.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% were non-families. 26.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.12.

In the city the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 89.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $22,404, and the median income for a family was $24,667. Males had a median income of $24,000 versus $15,667 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,884. About 23.0% of families and 32.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 54.5% of those under age 18 and 8.8% of those age 65 or over.
