census GR|2 of 2000, there were 627 people, 281 households, and 168 families residing in the city. Thepopulation density was 384.8 people per square mile (148.5/km²). There were 321 housing units at an average density of 197.0/sq mi (76.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.52% White, 0.16% African American, 0.16% Native American, and 0.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.16% of the population.There were 281 households out of which 28.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.5% were married couples living together, 12.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.2% were non-families. 37.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.98.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 11.3% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 82.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.2 males.
