The city of Woodbine was founded by James Allen Gillett on July 16, 1887. He named it Woodbine after his former hometown of Woodbine, Illinois.
In 1872, James Gillett built a water powered grist mill on Lyon's Creek. Local farmers could bring in their grain to be ground. The mill burned in 1892 and was not rebuilt. The first telephone in Woodbine was from the switchboard in the hardware store to the A.A. and G.G. Gillett residences.

As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 207 people, 76 households, and 51 families residing in the city. Thepopulation density was 1,451.9 people per square mile (570.9/km²). There were 89 housing units at an average density of 624.2/sq mi (245.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.58% White and 2.42% Native American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.97% of the population.There were 76 households out of which 42.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.5% were married couples living together, 7.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.6% were non-families. 25.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.42.
In the city the population was spread out with 35.7% under the age of 18, 3.9% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 101.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $27,813, and the median income for a family was $32,857. Males had a median income of $25,313 versus $20,625 for females. The
per capita income for the city was $12,709. About 14.3% of families and 16.4% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 27.3% of those under the age of eighteen and none of those sixty five or over.References
