United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km²), all of it land. The town is situated near theLittle Sioux River .Demographics

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 649 people, 291 households, and 176 families residing in the city. Thepopulation density was 909.7 people per square mile (352.9/km²). There were 310 housing units at an average density of 434.5/sq mi (168.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.38% White, 0.31% from other races, and 0.31% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.69% of the population.There were 291 households out of which 25.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.1% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.5% were non-families. 37.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 24.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.95.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 22.5% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 26.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 82.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.4 males.
