census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,898 people, 728 households, and 516 families residing in the city. Thepopulation density was 897.8 people per square mile (347.3/km²). There were 752 housing units at an average density of 355.7/sq mi (137.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.58% White, 0.37% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.11% from other races, and 1.53% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.95% of the population.There were 728 households out of which 40.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.9% were married couples living together, 9.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% were non-families.
In the city the population was spread out with 30.1% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 100.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.4 males.
